When advertising on the internet and marketing to any group of people, creating curiosity is often one of the biggest factors to your success, starting with a good domain name.
With a good domain name, you can create a lot of interest, a lot more traffic to your website, optins, leads & ultimately, sales (if your website converts that is)!
A domain name is a small group of words that you’ll purchase from a domain registration company and then redirect toward the URL of your website. (URL = universal re-direct link)
Usually, this URL could be long and might contain many different words and/or letters that might make absolutely no sense to the average person considering clicking on it.
The URL could also be shared by other marketers, but have your own unique "username" placed after a backslash, for example: http://WhateverYourSystemNameIs/YourUsername
This is called a Self Replicated Website, meaning that everybody who uses this particular System, gets the same exact Landing Page when they sign up or get started.
The problem with this is that when everybody has the same Landing Page, the content (words on the page), is the exact same, which is not very intriguing nor inviting to a website visitor.
In today's market and today's economy, with so much lack of trust, people visiting your website want to know that you are unique and different than everybody else, so by having a different Landing Page than everybody else, you will set yourself apart and truly be able to convey your own unique message about why your website visitors would want to take a look at your business and optin at your site.
Not only that, but if you run an Internet Marketing business, and your return on investment after making a sale warrants online advertising, if you are using any form of Pay Per Click such as Google Adwords to drive visitors to your Landing Page, the search engines will not display your page, if it is an exact replica of another marketers, so individuality is highly encouraged, starting with your domain name.
So, not only can't self replicated web pages be used when advertising on Pay Per Click, but at the same time, potential website visitors don't want to see a URL for your website, which is no different than anyone else's, except for the "Username" you chose when getting started.
So, the domain name you purchase should be short and simple and something that intrigues a person to click on, whether it be from an email, online advertising or from any website where your domain is posted, like at FaceBook, YouTube or Twitter.
For this example, your domain name will redirect to your Carbon Copy Pro Landing Page, although you can purchase domain names for any website or affiliate link URL that you are promoting.
Now for example, when first getting started, your Carbon Copy Pro Landing Page URL might be
http://oneyearplan.net/YOURUSERNAME < ---- THIS LINK DOES NOT WORK - It's JUST an Example of what your URL might be with your own USERNAME)
(Every CCPro Member gets a "OneYearPlan.net" domain name, followed by their username that they selected when purchasing their Black Box.)
Well, you don’t want people going to check out “OneYearPlan.net”, nor does it mean anything to anyone, so you want to purchase a domain name that will point, re-direct or "forward" to this URL.
It's like someone calling your home number, but being "forwarded" to your cell or mobile phone number. Forwarding a domain name is the same concept - you choose where your purchased "Domain", forwards to.
As a rule of thumb, always buy your own name (or a version of it) as a domain name. Even if you don’t use it right away, you will certainly want your own name for any personal branding you might create in the future. Of course, you can use it for your CCPro Landing Page as well, if you choose, depending on the market you are posting your name based domain to.
It's a great idea to use your own name in a domain, when marketing to your friends, fans or followers from the Social Media Market.
People who follow you and are your friends on FaceBook, Twitter, YouTube, Linked in, MySpace and/or any Social Media Platform, want to know YOU and so by using your name or a version of it, (ie. WhoIsJohnSmith.com), this will create curiosity in your friends, fans & followers, perhaps compelling them to click on your link at your Profile Page.
When selecting a domain name for Online Advertising, it’s a great idea to create what is known as “relevance”, by including in your domain name, a couple or few words that appear on your Landing Page.
Because this is not a Social Media Advertising Campaign, using your name is not the best option because the market doesn't know you, yet. It's better to go with more 'Marketing Savvy' words in a domain name that is short, sweet and intriguing to your audience.
A great way to come up with some ideas, is to build your Landing Page first, then purchase a domain name that matches up with some of the more powerful words on the page. Or, buy your domain name first and then make sure you use the words in it on your Landing Page at least a few times, closer to the top of the page in a Pre-Headline or Headline itself, where it will catch the attention of anyone who clicked on your domain name out of curiosity.
This will also help you get a good "Quality Score" with Search Engines, especially Google, if you are using Google Adwords to drive traffic to your CCPro Landing Page.
In addition, stay away from any abbreviations or spelling that is different than normal as it will confuse people, ie... for the word "easy", don't use "EZ". (not that we recommend that word as a part of your domain - just stay away from abbreviations, but stick to short words and phrases that are easy to spell and easy to remember.)
A good domain name should create curiosity and intrigue people and make them want to see the information at your Landing Page or website.
Of course, if your Ad is well written and draws attention by high placement on Google's Sponsored Ad Bars, your domain name is important, but what is MORE important, is that the searcher, now turning website visitor, finds what they were looking for when they clicked on your Ad.
You can buy inexpensive domain names at Go Daddy, if you don't already have a domain registrar that you like. This is who we use and they are the best out there in our opinion.
When visiting this website, the first thing you will want to do is Search for a Domain name, to see if it’s even available.
If it is, you will see suffixes available for the domain you choose, i.e. .com, .net, .org, .us, .biz, .info, etc…
.Coms are usually associated with a website where a purchase might be made, ie. the word "commerce".
.Nets could be used for "commerce" like a dot com, but are usually associated with a network that the website would represent.
.Info is usually associated with just that, information about someone or something
.Org is usually associated with information about an organization
And the list goes on... you get my point!
Pick whichever you like, however, remember that Dot com domains usually get the biggest response, not because you'll have the best domain name online, but because .com domains were the first to the marketplace when the internet was still in its infancy and if people forget that your domain is a .net or .biz or .info, they will always go to the .com version of your domain.
Now, when you purchase a Domain Name for your Landing Page, if you are going to have Carbon Copy Pro host your domain, (which is something we highly recommend if you plan on doing any Search Engine Marketing, you will be given instructions by CCPro where to “Forward” your new domain name, as well as what new values to give what are called, Domain Nameservers or DNS.
Please be aware that it takes up to 24 hours for a newly registered domain name to be active so be sure not to start marketing it or sharing it with others until you have thoroughly tested it, your Landing Page & your Autoresponder messages.
When testing at your Carbon Copy Pro Landing Pages, be sure to use an Email Address that has no connection to Carbon Copy Pro or AWeber.
You might want to set up a new email address at Gmail just for testing purposes, so you can also see your Autoresponder Messages that your Leads, Applicants & New Members are receiving from you each day.
If you do use an Email Address that is a “duplicate”, that AWeber or CCPro recognizes,
Chances are the links in your messages will not take them to your site. It will appear that the links are “broken”.
Chances are, they are NOT broken.
If you have any questions about this when testing your Autoresponder Messages, please contact Technical Support in your CCPro Back Office under “Support” or, AWeber Tech Support!
There are also a couple of Videos in the Carbon Copy Pro Video Library under Training that will show you how to forward and mask a domain name, as well as updating its DNS settings at Go Daddy.
Happy Marketing!
